The Villars Framework for a Sustainable Trade System has emerged as a visionary proposal through the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Remaking Global Trade for a Sustainable Future Project. It is a comprehensive set of reforms crafted to reinvigorate the global trade system, integrating sustainability, a people-centric approach, effectiveness, inclusivity, transparency, and digital transformation. At the recent High-Level Summit Meeting for a Sustainable Trade System, CAP-A contributed as a member of a diverse cohort representing trade ministries, environment and climate change agencies, environmental NGOs, academic policy centres, think tanks, and businesses.

The primary objective was to discuss restructuring international trade, channelling its potential to drive global advancements in climate change mitigation and sustainability – a critical initiative to CAP-A. The resulting Villars Framework for a Sustainable Trade System is a crucial pillar in creating the necessary conditions to transition to Climate Positive Growth.
