The Africa Youth Climate Initiate conducted a survey at both the national and grassroots level with the following findings:

  • The youth know about climate change and are very worried about it
  • Most of the respondents already see the negative impacts of climate change on their communities
  • Lower harvest is the most negative impact cited by respondents
  • Most of the respondents say they do not know enough about climate change and climate action to give informed opinions on the matter
  • The youth are hopeful about benefits of climate action although few have seen these in action
  • Climate change and its effects are key concerns for the future
  • The youth see various potential opportunities from climate action:
    • Receiving funds from the government
    • New business opportunities for Africa/Community
    • New jobs with climate action
    • Raising funds from developed countries
    • Developing and deploying African innovations
  • Economic opportunities and Education & Awareness would encourage respondents to seek ways to benefit from available opportunities in climate action
  • Climate change and its effects are key concerns for the future
