The platform’s work is informed by the realisation that Africa’s demographics, growth trajectory and natural resource endowments, coupled with its extremely low levels of current carbon emissions, allow the continent to aspire to not just net-zero but a substantial net-negative carbon footprint sooner than any other part of the world.
We do so through:
CAP-A demonstrates the financial and climate viability of [a few different solutions] that can illustrate Africa’s potential in helping accelerate the global push for net zero. We seek to capture attention and mobilize support from a range of stakeholders.
We believe that Africa is a neglected part of the the Solution! Africa is inherently well positioned to tap into the growing carbon market, with a tangible demonstration of opportunities that are crucial to shift the African narrative and a more dynamic and effective approach to viable pathways that allow for Africa’s assets to generate economic value and livelihoods through climate action.
We use data to focus on sizing the various elements of the opportunity in terms of potential for carbon removal, revenue and livelihood and job opportunities across the continent.
We combine this sizing with local contextual data to generate a more granular sense of what may be realistically possible and where. Given the scale of our ambition, CAP-A aims to work with and through a network of likeminded partners with whom we connect, collaborate and amplify promising ideas and opportunities.
